Adjunct and Part-Time Faculty at New York University and the New School (UAW Local 7902)
January 18, 2019
Dear New Museum Colleagues,
We are adjunct and part-time faculty at The New School and New York University, who voted to unionize with UAW Local 7902. By organizing, we’ve been able to make major improvements in conditions for contingent faculty at these universities, including in compensation and benefits, and by establishing basic job rights and security for our members.
Perhaps most important of all, as adjunct and part-time faculty, we were overlooked and taken for granted until we unionized. We now have an effective, democratic voice in our conditions and the power to bring together adjunct and part-time faculty across our university campuses to press for fair treatment.
As teachers working in the arts and other creative disciplines, the improvements we’ve won in our working conditions allow us to engage more productively in our respective fields. We welcome you as fellow workers in the arts, and we look forward to working alongside you to improve our working lives.
